If I would have seen this movie last year, I think I would have enjoyed it much more. The problem is, there has been too many good spy movies this year and I canÕt help but compare. When considering it alongside movies like Spy Game, Bourne Identity or Sum of All Fears it flickers dimly.
Another reason it doesnÕt hold up in my opinion is because of the way Chris Rock tries to mix humor into serious situations. I just couldnÕt believe that even a comedian would feel like joking when faced with international terrorists and a nuclear threat. There were just too many dumb ad-libs to allow me to buy into the plot.
Finally, I have to mention that I didnÕt think Anthony Hopkins was redeeming either. In fact, this movie had one of the worst fight scenes IÕve ever seen in an action film. Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock were punching a stunt man hanging in their sunroof and it looked horrible. Stupid scenes like that are abundant and detracted from this movie that seemed to waver between a comedy and an action drama. |
