This movie had a unique story line, in which the father and son pair of Frank (Dennis Quaid) and John (James Caviezel) Sullivan where able to talk to each other over short-wave radio. I guess that alone would not make for much of a movie, except Frank was in 1969 and John was in 1999.
Their communications began the day before Frank was supposed to die in 1969. After John told him how to avoid death, the change sparked other changes which began changing the future in which John was currently living.
The movie starts a bit slow, (during which time I was sure that it was heading for a rating of less than 5), but it takes some turns for the better and was able to capture my interest. However, I was surprised at the number of past-to-future tricks that were taken from the "Back to the Future" movies. Some of them just a little too obvious, not to make the connection. Overall, the script does a pretty good job of linking the changes from the past into the future without any major discrepancies.
In retrospect, "Frequency" was not as good as I was expecting and a little cheesy at times but worth the $3.70 rental fee. |
