A documentary is something you expect to watch on the History Channel, or PBS. A show you watch in black and white, or late at night when you are having trouble sleeping. And, thanks to the monotone narration and the boredom you are subjected to, the sleepless nights will soon be a thing of the past. That is, of course, unless you are watching one of Michael MooreÕs documentaries.
ÒBowling for ColumbineÓ takes a look at the story behind the Columbine shootings and asks the questions ever thought to ask. ÒWhat could make seemingly normal high school kids go on a killing spree?Ó And, all of this, after a little bowling to start the morning. To do this, Mr. Moore looks at the similarities and differences between the US and other countries, compares our behavior to theirs, and tries to answer the unanswerable question. All the while, entertaining the audience by adding a little humor, and giving them something to think about.
Conservatives have said this movie only looks at one side of the issue. My response is that I would gladly watch a movie about the other side if someone could make one as entertaining. Until then, ÒBowling for ColumbineÓ is one of my favorite movies of 2002. |
