Thanks Bob. At dinner afterwards, we began talking about the movie. As we discussed that something appeared to be missing, Bob indicated that story could be a metaphor for life. I was thrilled because this gave me a tagline for my review. Why is Bob not using it as his tagline you may ask? Well, if you are a fan of his movie reviews, you already know the answer. Over and over throughout the movie, Charlie Kaufman thought to himself ÒIÕm fat and IÕm bald.Ó I feel that way sometimes. Coupled with the something missing part, maybe itÕs a metaphor for my life.
What was it that was missing? IÕm not quite sure. But I know, a movie just shy of a 2-hour running time shouldnÕt feel longer than ÒThe Lord of the Rings.Ó I know the LOTR is an action movie, and its full span should be filled with genuine entertainment. I guess I just have a hard time expecting less from movie with 2/3 of its length.
Two paragraphs down, and IÕm feeling like my review is a metaphor for someone who doesnÕt have anything to say. Something is missing, like what did I think of the movie. ...It felt long, too long. I was bored before it was finished, and I wanted it to end. I thought Nicolas Cage was a good choice for the leading role, but the story needed more excitement to make it truly worth watching. The filming style incorporates a lot of flashback and forths, and trick photography as Nicolas plays two roles. They were both well done and easy to follow, but it wasnÕt enough. If you figure out whatÕs missing, let me know. Just wait for the video to find out. |
