Horror movies are not one of my favorite genres. For one, I live alone. It is amazing what types of creepy things your mind can imagine when you are alone, in a dark house, at 3 in the morning. (You know you are the same way. I am just willing to admit it.)
Of all the movies that I have seen, this is the only one that you must absolutely, positively, without question, see in a theatre. Everyone (and I mean everyone) that has told me they watched it on video, hated it. Take my word for it, no one in the theatre the night I was there, hated it. In fact, everyone was on the edge of their seat in anticipation, in awe, and in fear.
Let me tell you, I did not sleep well for the next several nights after watching it. Even the picture on the VHS box gives me the creeps. I, for one, could have believed that this was a true story. Everything about it seem believable, and I don't see how the acting could have been done any better. When I saw the famous scene of the girl crying into the camera at night in her tent, I believed every word she said.
If you have not seen this movie, PLEASE don't rent it. Instead, plead with your neighborhood theatre to run it around Halloween so you can see it the way it was meant to be seen. Then you will understand what I am talking about.
"Absolutely Fantastic" is the best way I can describe this movie. |
