The only unfortunate thing about seeing this movie is when I saw it - after all the hype, after the Oscars, after it had it's run in the big theaters... but that's the only unfortunate thing about this movie.
It was brilliantly done - and much to my husband's surprise, not a chick flick. It took months to assure him that I did not think that it would be a typical "girl" movie - and boy was I right!
All the hype around the prothetic nose that Nichole Kidman wore was deservable. Even after I knew that - it was hard to recognize her. She was superb as Virginia Wolfe - a struggling writer who was "trapped" in a small town outside of London. The story connects her to Julianne Moore's character - a housewife in the 50s who doesn't like where she is in life... which, surprisingly connects to the year 2001 and Merle Streep's character who has hit middle age and is "lost". They are all connected by the hours.
I will warn you - this is in no way a feel good movie, but is definitely well worth the money to see. |
