This movie falls under the category of "dupe-an- unsuspecting-audience-with-the-trailer-bait-and-switch." Usually, this tactic is employed to showcase the best parts and camouflage an otherwise ghastly movie. The trailer for this movie had the opposite, uninspired effect-Kevin Bacon (Tom) gets hypnotized by a novice, which causes him to go insane. HO-HUM! Although he doesn't go insane, his hypnotism is only the foundation of MUCH, MUCH MORE! A post-hypnotic suggestion opens Tom's mind to the inexplicable, and he struggles with the interpretation of the images that he receives. Trust me, I have revealed a lot but haven't given away anything.
This movie appealed to my fascination of the paranormal and its possibilities. Even though this movie falls under the genre of "horror", in actuality, it's a thriller (a VERY GOOD thriller!!) |
