Well, Its been awhile, but after an extended hiatus, I'm once again here posting reviews at the new and improved PopcornPicks.com! I've got a new face, and the site's been reworked to make it better for you, our friends and fellow movie fans. Enjoy!
On to the movie...what to say, what to say. I'll start by saying I really liked it, but I kind of expected to. Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors, and since he directed "Big Fish", I was pretty sure I'd enjoy it. This director has an imagination like no one else in Hollywood, and that imagination is easily seen in some of my favorite movies, including "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", "Ed Wood", "Beetlejuice" and "Nightmare Before Christmas". To put it simply, he rocks, end of story. According to Yahoo Movies, during his formative years, Burton spent hours glued to the tube, watching old cartoons and horror flicks. I wonder what else we have in common? As far as the movie goes. I lovde the "fantastic" tales that are depicted onscreen, they kind of reminded me of how a young boy imagines his escape from evil aunts in another Burton fave, "James and the Giant Peach". The cast worked well, but no one really stood out than Ewan McGregor. The story was clearly the centerpiece of this movie, and it really worked for me. I'll warn you though, you may get a little misty during certain parts, hey, I did! What can I say, I'll blame it on my contact lenses. Rest assured, this is not a weepy tear jerker, the emotions tend to catch up to you though, so watch out.
In summary, if you like unique, imaginative movies, you should like this. And check back for more new reviews from "Bob" and the gang! |
