I went into see this movie with the popcornpicks gang, not knowing much of anything about this movie, which is pretty rare for me. All I really knew was that it was set in Las Vegas, and that pretty much was all it took to peak my interest. I'm a big fan of anything "Vegas", so of course I loved the backdrop for this story, the seedier end of the strip, Freemont Street. Overall, I enjoyed the story, which followed the life of a luckless loser and his newfound love. William H. Macy transforms before your eyes from a downtrodden loser to a swinging winner with the help of his new girlfriend (Maria Bello), and its really funny to see. He's such an underdog, you can't help but root for the guy. But mostly, Alec Baldwin steals the show as his boss and gritty casino manager who yearns for the "good old days". The relationship between these two is as disturbing as it is touching. I thought the movie was generally funny and well made, and if you're a "Vegas" fan too, I'm pretty
sure you'll like this movie. |
